Another gift of bX-59cppw. Great UK postpunk from 1982. Most copies came without a sleeve although you can check the frontsleeve on Discogs. Really hard-to-find and quite expensive these days.
No info to be found on SA55, so extra info would be welcome. Don't know what they meant with "ELENI - V" mentioned on the labels.

Sole release of indie band The Turncoats. They also appear on the 'Fridge Freezer' comp. 7" posted here before.
Don't know a lot of The Turncoats but they are featured in John Robb's 'Death To Trad Rock' book. Still need to get me a copy.
Noise A Noise was a label set up by That Petrol Emotion. First release is a 12" from That Petrol Emotion. A 12" of Death By Milkfloat was meant to be released but that never happened. It got released a few years later as the 'Sense And Nonsense' 12" in Greece on Di Di Records. Anyone who could find me a copy for a decent price can always let me know. Well, any Death By Milkfloat is welcome.

Last post for 2011. Here are the two remaining records of Live Skull that I promised to post. 'Cloud One' was the band's second full-length. 'Pusherman' was the last record with the original line-up. 'Pusherman' Originally written by Curtis Mayfield.

Wish you all the best for 2012 although I'm somehow pessimistic about the state of the world. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Capitalism is pushing more people into poverty. Politics are captured by the free market, rating-bureaus and banks. And still no consensus on global warming, pushing the world further into ecological disaster. Luckily there's good music around to soften the pain.

'Bringing Home The Bait' is the band's first full length album, now released on Homestead Records.

Posted on Return To The East before but got the WAV's from bX59-cppw and made HQ MP3's of it.
A band I was curious about when a Canadian ebay seller was offering it and it got sold for quite some money. Could never find a copy for a decent amount of money but was glad that RTTE posted it and I like it very much.
This 7" never came with a picture sleeve. Also not a lot of info on Hedone as well. They seemed to be from Bath as a commenter on Return To The East stated.
Decent, moody postpunk, unfortunately their only release.

2nd effort of postpunkers Luddites. Their first 7" 'Strength Of Your Cry' was released on Xcentric Noise and still has some punk influence. The 'Altered States' 7" is much gothier and a pretty great single it is.
Already posted before on blogs but got the WAV's from bX-59cppw and converted those to HQ MP3's. So everyone can enjoy a better rip of this one.

First comp. album released on Torment Records, the label of The Second Coming. A collection of bands from Surrey and the area around.
As with all compilations, this one has outstanding stuff and less interesting ones.
Party Day, The Second Coming and Silent Scream are the best ones here and you can find all their other releases in my archives. Monk De Wally De Honk and Fractured Echo (track taken from a 3-track 7") are OK too. Don't care too much for the other bands.

Metal Doughnut Band - s/t 12"

Here's one for the Yeah Yeah Noh fans, although Metal Doughnut Band sounds completely different than YYN.
Released on Vuggum, the label that also released the Peel Session LP of Yeah Yeah Noh.
The Metal Doughnut Band has Andy Nicholls in the band and the cover for this 12" was done by Sue Dorey, drummer of YYN.
Two tracks only unfortunately. Quite experimental stuff, rhythmic, with sax and synths and voice samples.
Funny to read the runout groove stating 'Makes Yeh Yeh Noh Sound Like Barry Manilow'. Nice to see that bands/musicians don't take themselves too seriously.
Did find out that maybe they appear on the 'Let's Cut A Rug' comp. album as the Doughnut Metal Band. Maybe that's a typo on Discogs or on the sleeve of the record. Don't own it so I don't know.

Never heard of this band/record before but it's really interesting. Hard to describe too but it has that early UK postpunk sound we all love.
Released on the obscure Wycombe label Zebre/Zebra sometime in between 1987 and 1989.
The third release is a 7" by indie band Home And Abroad in 1989. The second release is still a mystery.

Asked by someone a long time ago. Finally got around ripping the early records of The Very Things.
Don't think the band needs any introduction. The Very Things was the follow-up of The Cravats. Shend and R. Dallaway with a new drummer with the nickname Disneytime. Gone is also the sax, as Svor Naan went to play with Pigbros.
'The Gong Man' released on CRASS-offshoot Corpus Christi, the other 2 on Reflex Records (And Also The Trees, Two, Noseflutes). There's one more song from this period 'The Hole' not included here, but you can find that one on the 'Gunfire And Pianos' comp. album posted in the blogosphere.

Pretty obscure 7" from unknown UK band Paradise Now. They were from South Shields, Tyne + Wear, close to Newcastle.
Indie postpunk tunes here. No info on the band to be find though.

I got this copy from an ebay-seller that sells stuff that isn't listed anywhere else, not even on Discogs (well now it is). I think the seller worked for a zine as the records come with promo or handwritten letter from the band. Paradise Now even claim to be the best thing to come out of the Newcastle area since Brown Ale!

I removed all download links for UV Pop records posted here. The reason is that I found out (through bX59-cppw) that John White made a UV Pop bandcamp page where you can download those records for a reasonable price. There are also some recent recordings to be found. The only one missing is the 'Music To Yeah To" 12" and some early tape-only material.
Thanks to Burl Veneer and Eleni for the original rips they provided me back in the days. It seems to have spurred a lot of interest in hearing back those hard-to-find UV Pop records.
There are (were?) plans for reissues but I haven't heard anything from the label involved lately.

Yeah Yeah Noh - Cutting The Heavenly Lawn Of Greatness...Last Rites For The God Of Love LP

Probably posted elsewhere but here's a quality rip from pristine vinyl of the sole full length album of Yeah Yeah Noh.
I think I've read somewhere that John Peel was a bit disappointed with this album, being a big fan of the band. It's a quite long album and maybe Yeah Yeah Noh works better in small doses on 7"/12", but you need to listen a few times to this record to fully appreciate it.
The album has some known songs as 'Temple Of Convenience', a re-recorded 'Prick Up Your Ears' and 'Starling Pillowcase', and 'Home-Ownersexual' which is another version of 'Another Side To Mr. Quill'.
The album contains two covers, 'Susie's Party' and 'She Said She Said'.
The 'Fun On The Lawn Lawn Lawn' album which is a compilation of Peel sessions is the only record I don't have of Yeah Yeah Noh. Hopefully one day...

Menticide - Bathroom Ideas Exhibition 7"

Now there are some bands called Menticide but this one is the UK band, actually from Southwell, Nottinghamshire. Already started in 1976/77 but their first and only release was this single released in 1985, after some line-up changes.
I think they are also mentioned in John Robb's 'Death To Trad Rock' book but I'm not sure.
Menticide also appear on 'The Timebox' comp. album posted by Sorrow-Vomit on his great blog Kentucky Fried Wave.

Here's both releases of Birmingham indie band The Scarecrows. Formed in 1982 out of the ashes of Bible Belt (with Dave Kusworth).
The original idea was to be a pop band although Jeremy Thirlby was added as guitarplayer as the songs lacked edge.
Sometimes the band got lumped in with the goth stuff much to the disgrace of some of the members while the others didn't mind.
The Scarecrows played with Balaam And The Angel, Gene Loves Jezebel and The Waterboys.

The Deep End 12" has an interesting cover of 'Submission' by The Sex Pistols.
Swordfish Records was a local label that also released stuff by Lilac Time, Zodiac Motel, Surf Drums and Dave Kusworth.

Follow-up to the great 12" posted here a while ago. This 7" was released in 1982, prior to the 'I Hate You' 12".
Got the raw wav's from bX-59cppw and transferred them to HQ mp3's for you all.
I know it has been posted on another blog some time ago but I wasn't very happy with the 128 kbps rip of the B-side of this great 7".

Recorded just before singer Connelly's tragic death.
This 12" was the first release on big indie label Setanta who would later release stuff by A House, The Divine Comedy, Richard Hawley and Edwyn Collins.

Alex Gibson - Passionnel 12"

Cool wave sound of Alex Gibson, once member of Bpeople. Bpeople was actually called Little Cripples before when Michael Gira was still in the band.
This 12" is the only release using his own name. Alex would later start the band Passionnel that lasted till 1986. Passionnel released one 12" and an album on Enigma.
Alex Gibson also worked on the cult film 'Suburbia'. He currently does music editing for films.

Some weird skronk stuff of Gasrattle. Don't know anything about them. Screeching sax, loose song structures and a singer that sometimes sounds like Nick Cave in his The Birthday Party days.
Another song 'Beach Party' appears on the 'Imminent 2' comp. as well as on the 'Music From The Deadzone: Europe' comp. on Dead Man's Curve.
Pretty wild stuff. This 12" can be found very easily and quite cheap. Released on Fever Records, known for records by Kill Ugly Pop! and some early My Bloody Valentine.

Another gift from bX-59cppw. Thanks to him for keeping this blog alive a bit. Don't have a big budget to score rare stuff for the moment.
Sardine V is a very interesting new wave/postpunk band from Australia. Prior to the 'I Hate You' 12" they released a 7" 'Sabotage/Sudan' in 1982.
Can't tell you more as this band is completely unknown to me. But Sardine V has Ian Rilen in the band, best known for being in Rose Tattoo and in one of the world's best punkbands ever, X.
'Stuck On you' was also covered by Hunters & Collectors.

The Gene Syndrome - Party In The Trees 7"

Always cool to discover a band I've never heard of before. The Gene Syndrome is one of them. The Gene Syndrome were from Croydon and was founded by Neil Faulkner, Roger Smith and Gill Wilkinson. The band had many drummers and occasionally other members involved during their existence.
'Party In The Trees' is the band's first release. Haven't heard any of their later releases. In 1986 they released the '25 Or 6 To 4' 7", actually a song originally written by Chicago. In 1988 they recorded the 'Delicious' album and the 'Royal Voodoo' 7", both produced by Ralph Jezzard, who did the production for Blood And Roses.
The Gene Syndrome did also one gig in 1985 with Blood And Roses.
On this 7", Michal Turtle (Wicked Kitchen Staff) played keyboards on the first song. To my surprise, there's an old but extensive site on The Gene Syndrome. Check it out here.

bX-59cppw offers me the first and also rarest release of The Toilets/Toylets. One of the great Top Hole bands like Qua Dance or The Visitor. I posted the Toylets album before and maybe the 2nd 7" will follow soon. Great new wave, a bit like The Cure but much rawer.
Discogs states that the 1st song was made by Subsequent Pleasure, an alter ego of The Toilets. Don't know what the reason could be.
There's only one track that I still didn't hear that appears on a comp. flexi, also release on Top Hole that came with 'Het Bestaan' zine.

6-track album of French band International Sin. They also appear on the 'Lyon Compilation' which I posted here before.
This album was released on Contorsion (Movement, Strahler, The Bonaparte's, Baroque Bordello, ...). I expected to hear more of that typical French cold wave sound but this one is more poppy/funky. Not bad nor really great. I felt rather disappointed. But it's a pretty rare record nonetheless.

Citizen UK was a UK band who bring us 3 tracks of great synthy new wave sounds. Don't know anything of Citizen UK so anyone who can give us more info is more than welcome.
The 7" came in a 10" sleeve.

As requested by Sheerinertia. Seems that the rip floating on the net is of pretty low quality so here's my own rip (320).
The second album of Kommunity FK is a more polished affair than 'The Vision And The Voice' album but as good as this one.
The first album has been re-released in 2006 on Mobilization Records. 'Close One Sad Eye' was put on CD in 1993 on Cleopatra Records. Both the vinyl and CD version are way out of print.
Many of you already heard of Kommunity FK and for those who don't; there's a lot of info to be found on them on the net. Official band page here.

Here's a quite obscure band from the US who released this pretty weird and diverse album in 1987. No info to be found. The second part of the band name can be read backwards!
In the file you'll find an extra track, the last track (B6), which is 'Inside-Out' played backwards. You can actually play that song backwards on the vinyl album.

Unknown Swiss new wave band Irratics released this 12" in 1987. The band was set up by Blaise Lucianaz of punk band Baramine. The female vocals are delivered by Vicki, originally from the UK.
The band did more than 100 gigs in Switzerland and abroad till 1992. Irratics split up in 1998 and released a CD sometime in the 90's.

My last post for 2010. Wish you all a happy holiday time. It's already been snowing over here and it's damn cold. And winter just begun.
I know that this album has already been posted on a few blogs but it was always the same rip with a nasty skip in the begninning of the last song, probably taken from slsk.
Finally found a copy for myself and ripped it at 320 kbps, without any skips.
What to be said about Red Temple Spirits? Most of you will already heard them by now. Great mix of postpunk with psychedelia. They even do a song of Pink Floyd.
Released on Fundamental as well as on Nate Starkman & Son.

This is actually a great 7" of this NY band. First release of Mode/IQ that went to release another 7" in 1983 and the 'Mind/Soul' mini-album in 1984. The mini-album can be found on A Viable Commercial. Check that album as well although it has more of a synth influence. This 7" sounds more new wave/postpunk so I like it a bit more.
Anyone out there who can hook us up on the 2nd 7"?

UK wave band with female vocals. They also appeared on the 'Not Waving But Drowning' comp. LP (posted on Mutant Sounds). The Wait also contributed to the 'Primitive Package' Comp. 7" and also released a 2-song 7" flexi in 1985. They also appear (posthumously I guess) on the French 'Unreleased Volume 2' comp. album.

Thanks to bX-59cppw for this generous gift. bX--59cppw won't continue updating his/her blog because of other priorities but will provide some stuff here or on fellow bloggers Capa Nostra Syndicate and Systems Of Romance.
Always wanted to score a copy of the Toylets album but never got around to do it. It's actually the easiest to find. This is off course the same band that released 2 singles as The Toilets, on Top Hole as well.
A pretty great album with a strong influence of The Cure.
The 'An Unspoiled Land' 7" can be found in the blogworld but I would like to hear their 1st 7" 'Boxjunction'. They also have 1 track on a comp. flexi with Social Security and Op De Koffie Band.
Top Hole was also responsible for the Qua Dance 7" and various records of The Visitor. Those can be found on No Longer Forgotten Music.

One of those French bands I know nothing about. The French Wave site doesn't have any info as well.
'Nouvelle Creature' is a pretty good album although a bit short. Wouldn't call it coldwave but it has elements. 'Blue Day' is an instrumental synthdrone piece.
Blue Sound is a nice surprise if you never heard them before.

This amazing 12", and my introduction to Dark Arts was originally posted on Mystery Poster but the post has disappeared. I offer my own rip here.
Dark Arts is actually Stephanie Payne. This 12" was released in 1986 on Ruthless Records, a label well known for releases of Big Black and The Effigies. This 12" was produced by Steve Albini, who ran Ruthless.

Bonemen Of Barumba - Icons LP

I know the this one has been posted some time ago on the 80's Postpunk Underground blog, but I already ripped it and planned to post it. Anyway, I had a hard time ripping this one as the record skipped from time to time although the vinyl looks very clean. Think some cheap vinyl was used to press the album.
'Icons' is Bonemen Of Barumba's third and final release. First one is the self-titled 10" released in 1981, and then the 'Driving The Bats Thru Jerusalem' 12" followed in 1982.
The band split up shortly after the album was released due to internal tensions.

Don't know much about this band. Don't think they were around for a long time. Expected this to be quite dark with deathrock influences but it's more like indie rock with a slightly goth influence.
A few members went on to become members of much more known bands. John Carson and Adam Tanner in Grotus, Roger Manning in Jellyfish and a lot of other indie bands. Drummer Toby Hawkins was also in Sordid Humor and later joined the Counting Crows.
This 12" was released by the band.

A quite different affair from this post-punkers. Read more on them on A Viable Commercial where you can find their 1st 7" and 'What's The Point' album.
Insulin Reaction used two basses instead of one guitar on their previous recordings but here, Tracy switched to guitar. Also Julianna Towns and Biff Sanders aren't part of the band anymore.
As you can guess by the label it's released on, there's a connection with The Veil. Well, James Christopher (AKA James Christ) did the production and Andrella managed the band at this point.
Although released in 1991 it's an interesting record if you're into the Cali postpunk stuff.

Here's the 2nd and 4th album of "grebo godfathers" The Bomb Party. The band didn't like the grebo tag and actually they're right. The band started as Farmlife and released one single on Dining Out. As The Bomb Party they signed to Abstract and released two 12"s and one 7" which are compiled on the 'The Last Supper' album. Their first album 'Drugs appeared on Abstract in 1986.
'Liberace Rising' is the band's 2nd album, on Workers Playtime released in 1987.
'Nativity #3' is the band's final album released in Germany on Artlos. The band would split just after the release. Bassplayer Sarah Corinna already left to play with the Mekons.
3rd album is 'Fish' and was released, also in Germany on Normal.

And here's another interesting record on Xcentric Noise. Quel Dommage were another postpunk/goth band from the Hull area like Luddites, Cold Dance and Punctured Tough Guy. The guy who ran the label also played guitar in the band.
The rip is a bit of a crackling affair, especially in the beginning of each side. Record is pretty old and I think cheap vinyl was used.

Sorry for the long wait but I'll post stuff very irregularly in the future. Don't have a lot of interesting music to post for the moment so I'll only post stuff that I'll find interesting enough and isn't featured on other blogs.
Got this tape a while ago. Cool deathrock sounding stuff from one-man band Sordicity from Virginia. Mike Roché is the man behind Sordicity and I think he listened to early Christian Death a lot. No further info. 8 tracks and an outro.
On the sleeve he thanks God Almighty, which is quite strange for a guy doing this stuff. Also the concept of God always feels awkward to me. Raised a catholic but turned atheist in my teens. In my opinion man created God and not vice versa. Off course anyone is entitled to his/her own beliefs as long as they don't organise and try to shove their belief down other's throats.
But it's about the music here. Enjoy some unknown deathrock stuff.

For those who like Red Temple Spirits: here's the band that came before them.
William Faircloth originally came from England and teams up with Roger Beall and multi-instrumentalist Mark Nine to deliver 5 tracks of postpunk with a strong 60's psyche influence. Early Pink Floyd comes to mind.
Ministry Of Love is a bit more psyche than Red Temple Spirits. They made a perfect mix of both styles on their 2 albums and the 'New Land' 7".

Time for some weird stuff out of Japan. Don't know anything about The Borobudur but I think it's just one person playing all the instruments. Sounds like coming straight from a mental institution.
Quite interesting.

Trivia: Borobudur is a buddhist temple on Java, Indonesia. Discovered in the 19th century, it's one of the biggest buddhist temples found.

One of the better known LA underground bands from the late 80's. Great mix of postpunk with a psychedelic sound
'Fill The Sky' is the band's 2nd release after an 8 track tape (which was later issued on vinyl on Nate Starkman & Son).
This album is probably the last album of the 1st line-up with Tom Dolan as lead-singer. Later albums have Beth Thompson as lead vocalist.
Tom Dolan released a solo album as Doubting Thomas.
The album is pretty long (± 50 mins.) so it's a pretty big file. Scans of the insert are included.
This album also includes the 1st issue of Alternator magazine (not scanned).

Note: lots of tracks ripped as 1 track as I didn't want to disrupt the flow of the album.

Learned to know this band by downloading this 12" from a blog now gone. And I did like what I heard so I tried to find this record as well as the harder to find 7".

It's Raining were from Huntington Woods, MI. , consists of 4 members. They have a strong UK postpunk sound, except maybe the vocals. No groundbreaking stuff here but a fine listen.
Not much info to be found on the band. Both records released by the band on Certain Records.
The 7" has good songs but sounds muddy probably of bad vinyl pressing.

Normally I don't plug new bands here as my focus is on 80's underground. But I make an exception here.
Blue Cross is one of the many side-bands of Ottowa punkband Germ Attak. Met these young punks at a gig here in Belgium and they are friendly guys.
Most of the sidebands are punk/hardcore sounding but Jo formed Blue Cross, a band with a strong early 80's goth/deathrock sound. Cool eerie guitars (flanger), tribal drums and female vocals, always a plus!
Only 3 songs but worth a listen.

And The Wizard posted a tape of another cool band of punks doing the goth thing: Bellicose Minds.

For those who like the 1st album of Pump, 'The Decoration Of The Duma Continues', there's good news. A friend of mine released their unreleased second album 'Sombrero Fallout'.
Andrew Cox commented on my Pump post more than a year ago asking if someone was interested in releasing it. Suddenly Andrew passed away January last year. FDV of Plague Recordings took interest and got in contact with David Elliott through Andrew Hulme of O Yuki Conjugate. And now finally this great album sees the light of day. And as stated on the insert: it's for everyone out there, but really it's for Andrew.

This is the band's first release on their own Pagan Records label.
I mentioned on my previous post that the band could have been 'bigger' if they should've signed with a more wellknown label like Beggars Banquet/Situation Two. Someone left a comment on Discogs that the band was offered a record deal by Beggars Banquet but refused it! The band had their reasons to turn the offer down I guess, but also missed the chance to get more wellknown.
Both tracks are good, but I especially like 'Still, Forever' best. Singer Lee Jones reaches high notes here.

OK, seems that the Anatomy Of Coincidence post is plagued with problems. Here you can find a link for 2 tracks. The Machine Language track had a few glitches which I removed. The Innerface track suddenly got some annoying gaps. I don't know how that came to be. So here are better versions of those 2. Quality is quite important to me. Enjoy!

Obscure comp. tape from 1984 with 10 acts from Indiana. The address states Bloomington so maybe these bands were made of students as Bloomington has one of the best universities of the world.
All tracks are instrumental and mostly made with keyboards. So expect some nice minimal synth tunes with a slightly experimental edge.
500 copies made. It is hard to tell what the bands and track titles are but Practic is mentioned for production and design so that meant that the titles in bold are the track titles I guess (see scan in the file).

Man From Missouri - s/t 10" flexi

Ever seen a 10" flexi? Well here's one from the enigmatic Man From Missouri. You could already hear a song by them on the 'Ultraviolet' comp. album posted a while ago.
Man From Missouri released an album 'Bwanger Tatalingus Debase' on the Greek chapter of Nate Starkman & Son label. Only 500 copies made so it's hard to find. Seems there's also a limited pressing in the US on Caroline.
This flexi was probably made as a promo for the album as the first three tracks also appear on the album. 'Ohms Way' is an exclusive track and a great one!
Drummer Steve Hadley later played in Acetone. Art Byington also in The Dogz, The Poetics, in the 90's line-up of Destroy All Monsters and also in Raymond Pettibon's backing band Supersession on 'Torches And Standards'.
There's a bit of scuffing noise in the beginning of 'Cover Tailor' which I couldn't remove.

One of those enigmatic bands that appear on the Godfathers Of German Gothic comp. CD. Don't own that CD but it's a good reference to search for more on those bands.
Chim Chim Cheree! were from Düsseldorf and did only this release I guess. Not that goth or dark as you would expect but a fine listen.

EDIT: Chim Chim Cheree! released a 12" called 'Serenade' in 1984. Follow-up bands are Scarlet Masque, Panic In Slumberland and Die Fische.

A mix of art rock, indie rock and more experimental stuff.
Fibonaccis is art rock. First 12" released on Index Records (Wall Of Voodoo, The Thought,...).
Pell Mell is an instrumental indie rock band that released a few albums on SST.
Necropolis Of Love is a great, goth-sounding band that released one 7" and two 12"s. The 'Hope' 12" can be found here. The 'Talk' 7" here. Still need to hear the 'In Search Of...' 12".
Food And Shelter released a great but extremely rare album 'Square Dance' on Resistance Records (17 Pygmies).
Michael Peppe released a few tapes with his music and monologues.
Henry Rollins offers a spoken word piece here.
Don't know anything about the other acts.

Only release I know of this German wave band. Their sound has nothing in common with NDW but is more inspired by UK postpunk.
Not much info to be found on Silent Rite except that bassplayer Lee Self also played in The Beauty Contest, Montanablue, Tanzplagen and occasionally for Kastrierte Philosophen.
This 7" was released on a small label called 46 Records. They also released records by Die Hornissen, Quick Culture and Alvi & The Alviettes.
'Benediction' is a live recording.

Not many info on this band. RDS compares them to Algebra Suicide or XeX but with a far richer sound as they use other instruments besides synths.

V/A Viva Los Angeles II 2xLP

As requested here's the seminal 2nd volume of the Viva Los Angeles series. Released in Italy on Viva Records in 1990, this album represents what was going on in the late 80's in LA.
There's enough info on bands like Drowning Pool, 17 Pygmies, Kommunity FK, Savage Republic or Fourwaycross so let's write a bit more on the lesser known acts.
Afterimage was a postpunk band that released a 12" and 7" on their own Contagion label in the early 80's. A few more records followed. This track is more of a Daniel Voznick solo effort.
Gothic Hut released their first album in 1982 on Posh Boy. Later releases on their own Show Me label. Nic Greene of The Blue Daisies and Blissed Out Fatalists was also a member of the band for a while but doesn't appear on the track here.
Marnie was a member of the Party Boys. Here she delivers the title track of her great debut album which she recorded together with Philip Drucker (Savage Republic, 17 Pygmies).
Red Temple Spirits were a psychedelic goth band with William Faircloth as frontman who was also in Minsitry Of Love. Two albums and one 7" on Independent Project and Fundamental/Nate Starkman & Son.
Partly Cloudy released one (hard-to-find) album 'Excess Verbiage' in 1987. A second album was announced but never released.
Trotsky Icepick were a noise rock band with albums on SST Records.
Shiva Burlesque did two albums: one for Nate Starkman & Son , the second one on Fundamental.
Scott Fraser did 3 albums on Fun Music of which the 1st two are cassette only.
Radwaste (ex-100 Flowers) and The Rub are both bands from the Happy Squid label.
The Soul Brothers also appeared on the 'The October Country' comp. album on Nate Starkman & Son. They also released a few cassette albums.
Mark Nine was also a member of Ministry Of Love and Afterimage.
In The Distance is a collaboration of A Produce and Pierre Lambow, both artists from the Trance Port label.
Viva Los Angeles II was released in 1990 on double LP and CD. This is the vinyl version. Comes with a booklet with more info on the bands, including discographies.

Strong song material but the production could be much better. The drums sound weak and the overall sound is quite muddy. Too bad. But don't let that be a reason not to download it.
The lyrics to 'Talking Of Michelangelo' and 'I'll Come Back' are taken from "The Wasteland and Other Poems" by T.S. Eliot.
Last song is an instrumental.

Cold Dance - No Glamour In Industry 7"

Got a request through discogs for this one. Didn't know that this 7" wasn't posted before.
This is the 1st record by Cold Dance. They did two 7"s for Xcentric Noise Records, known for releasing international punk/hardcore records. But the label also released some interesting goth bands from the Hull area like Luddites, Quel Dommage, Cold Dance and Punctured Tough Guy.
All of these are getting pretty hard to find especially the Punctured Tough Guy 7" and the 2nd Cold Dance 7". But if you want to check out these, go here and here.

First release of this not-so-known goth band. Don't know why they are labelled as a goth band 'cos you can't compare Longpig to any other band from that time. The music isn't very uptempo and quite minimal. The vocals are also more like spoken word.
Longpig went on to release an album 'Of Love And Addiction' on Anagram and a 12" 'Why Do People Find Each Other Strange', a track from the album with on the other side the same 2 songs as on this 12" B-side, probably re-recorded.

One of the ex-members left a comment on one of the previous posts but I can't remember which one. I hope to get more info from him soon on this one.

Sole album of this wave band from Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Got this one already a year ago from someone who didn't want it anymore (thanks!). Doesn't show up for sale that often.
Maybe a little late for the trend but nice wave songs with the obvious influences.

NOTE: as you've already noticed, I didn't do some posts for a while. The reason is that my girlfriend and I bought a house recently and the last weeks we moved everything and made it somewhat suitable to live in. The house needs a lot of renovation. 'Noises' reminds me of Bauhaus. The last two tracks are more experimental sounds. Had to rip it as one track as it was impossible to seperate.

Nice little record of this pretty unknown band. Non Ext were from Maastricht, a Dutch city near the Belgian border. It seems that they joined the Flanders Rock Concours as they are mentioned on the thank list.
Don't think Non Ext had a budget to make this 7" as it sounds a bit underproduced and the sleeve looks very cheap. Nonetheless an interesting band. The first song is the winner here.
No release date mentioned but I guess the early 80's.

Punky postpunk from Basta Roc. Don't know anything about this band. There's some confusion on the origins of Basta Roc. It seems that this 7" was released in Sweden (according to the discogs submission but my copy doesn't show any relevant info) but I guess the band came from the UK. They also appear on the 'Out Of The Unknown' comp. LP and 'The Wycombe Compilation' comp. album (with the track 'Billy Bones'). So I expect Basta Roc to be a Wycombe band.
Any extra info appreciated.

Here's a contribution by Alex of Infrastition.
A pretty rare 12" by a band called Spina Bifida. The band released it themselves in 1986. Already heard good things about this one and it surely wasn't a letdown. Three great songs in the best French coldwave tradition.
Spina Bifida formed in Bordeaux around 1986. They played about 20 gigs, opening for bands like Noir Desir, Jad Wio and Litfiba. The band split in 1989 with 2 members forming a new band called Spina. Never heard them but according to discogs, it's more in the EBM/techno style.
These are the only recordings by Spina Bifida.
Gratitude to Alex for ripping this 12" and making it available through this blog.

Another great but mysterious compilation album out of France. Has 4 bands of which I don't have any info. I know that Ventre did a 7" in 1987. Don't think the other bands released anything else.
Very diverse new/cold wave stuff.
The album has absolutely no info. The Funeral Party tracks were recorded in Montpellier, so maybe all bands were from the area?
I also think that other volumes never happened.

2nd album of this experimental goth band from New England. Got this one in a trade with Fritz Die Spinne. And I'm very happy to discover this band.
Holy Cow are a league on their own. You can hear influences of Bauhaus, Virgin Prunes as well as Swans or more industrial outfits.
2nd side 'Apocalypse Cow' of the album is a live recording from 1987 at the Living Room in Providence, RI. '39 Lashes' taken from 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.
1st side 'Suggested Reading' are songs inspired by short stories:
'Blue Bottle Boy' by 'The Fly' by Arthur Porges
'Rep Fuck' by Stephen King's 'Granma'
'If I Laugh...' by Cornell Woolrich's 'The Screaming Laugh'
'Island' by Stephen King's 'Survivor Type'
Brenna is a short coda and ripped as one track with 'Island'.

Here's the very first release of Fra Lippo Lippi from Norway. The band needs no introduction I suppose. In the mainstream music world this band is known as a "one hit wonder" with 'Shouldn't Have To Be Like That'.
I think that many readers here have heard the 'In Silence' LP, their best moment. Even 'Small Mercies' is still a good effort but later the band went completely poppy and mainstream.
This 7" shows the band in another musical form. No vocals here and way more electronic. 3 minimal synth tracks on side A, one longer and darker, experimental track on the B side.

Here's another contribution by Rosario.
This tape was released in 1994 and Rosario knows some of the band members. He ripped this tape for a friend who is a DJ to use in his set. It took him quite some effort to get the sound better. He doesn't want his effort to be wasted so offers it to me to post here.
This cassette EP was released by the band. some members later in the more rock-oriented Frangar Non Flectar.
Good post-punk with influences from Joy Division, Killing Joke and Diaframma. Let us know what you think of it.

French punk/postpunk band from Paris that only released this mini-album on New Wave in 1985. They also appear on the comp. album 'France Profonde 1'.
For the rest, I can't tell much more. Some songs are punk, others are more postpunk sounding. One track 'Elle' is even dub/reggae style.

Here's another French band I know nothing about. This isn't some cold wave or so. Pretty heavy postpunk sound. Hard to describe.

Oddly enough, the band released 2 versions of the same record, one sung in English, the other one in German. Don't know what the purpose could be.

Well there's is a small difference on both records. Listen to the beginning of the 2nd track and you'll hear.
The English version is way harder to find than the German one.
Both 12"s were released on Contorsion, a label that also released records of Baroque Bordello, Movement, Les Provisoires, The Bonaparte's and Opéra De Nuit.
Strahler also appear on the Garage Recordse cover comp. '1966 Garage 1970' with a version of 'I Wanna Be Your Dog'.

And here's the first release on Prinzip Products.
A pretty rare split 10" released in 1982 in an oversized fold-out sleeve.
Selenite Vox came from Le Havre and offer 4 tracks of experimental synth stuff. One of their tracks was comped on the New Wave Complex boot series.
Les Abscons were from Lyon and offer 3 tracks of experimental weirdness. As far as I know this is their only release.
The label was named after Prinzip, the person who got arrested for shooting Franz Ferdinand. The start of WWI.

V/A Lyon Compilation LP

Interesting document of what was going on in French city Lyon early 1983. This album compiles the 6 best young bands from the area, excluding 'Les Abscons' (they did a split 10" with Selenite Vox).
All bands recorded at the same rehearsal room on cheap recording material so don't expect high quality recordings here.
Lust Sacrifice released a 7" called 'Hearting'. International Sin released an album 'Out' in 1985 on Contorsion. Don't think the other bands released anything else.
This was the 2nd release on Prinzip Products. First one is the Selenite Vox/Les Abscons split 10" which I will post next weekend.

A few notes: both tracks of Lust Sacrifice recorded as one track.
There are 3 song titles mentioned for La Cour Des Miracles but only 2 are on the album.
At the end of side B, Baat-Baal start a 3rd song but ends abruptly.

3 track 12" of Academy Of Unrest. The band came from St. Helens, UK.
They also appear with one track on the 'Elegance, Charm And Deadly Danger' comp. album on Push Records in 1985.
Nice postpunk with a goth touch although nothing groundbreaking.
First release on local label Dead Fly Records, also responsible for releases of electronic-psychedelic rockers Poisoned Electrick Head.

This is the second release of Dark Arts. The 'Long Way From Brigadoon' mini-album was released in 1986 on Chicago label Ruthless Records (Effigies, Naked Raygun, Big Black,... ). It took 5 years for the follow-up. 'Carnival Of Lost Souls' was released on vinyl and CD on Nate Starkman & Son, orignally a US label but this one was issued in Germany. The CD has 3 bonus tracks (the last 3 songs) and is harder to find than the LP.
Dark, ethereal wave with some Eastern influence. Core member is Stephanie Payne.
Dark Arts also appear on the 'October Country' comp. LP.

The Loved One - " ...... Further Observations" Reissue

Thanks to Dryden Hawkins for sending me this CD.
" ...... Further Observations" is The Loved One's 2nd album, a cassette-only release from 1982.
It contains recordings from 1979 to 1982 of which the title track is the definitive version of the track 'Observations' that appeared on the Some Bizarre comp. album.
I posted their 3rd album "Locate And Cement" a few years ago. This album is somehow more accessible and less experimental than "Locate And Cement" but it has that typical The Loved One sound.
All the albums will be remastered and reissued in the coming years so watch out for these.
A new album "SET" will be released next year.
