The Eternal - The Far Away Play 12"

Here's another recording from Lo Spettro Di Se Stesso.
I found out about The Eternal not so long ago. I was very curious about this band and now I have the chance to give it a listen. The Eternal were from The Netherlands and this 12" is their only release. Dark sounding postpunk/cold wave recorded in 1985.
Wolfgang who provided the sleeve pictures (thank you once again!) wrote me that there were only 500 copies pressed but most of them were destroyed. There are about 100 copies around in this world! So I gave up the idea to find myself one. It must be a miracle to find a decent copy of the record for a fair price.
So thanks to Lo Spettro Di Se Stesso we can all have a listen to this obscurity.

Hello, sorry to post here but I wasn't sure how to contact you. I have MP3s of a very rare old 7" of a band you did a post on previously. I'm looking to trade for MP3s of an LP you posted that is no longer available for download. If you're interested please e-mail me at malsonus [at] yahoo [dot] com

Thanks for the amazing blog.

Sounds interesting.....is there any way you can post this on mediafire as rapidshare is a pain in the butt.

Jonathan, sent you an email.

English Paul, I could do that next weekend. My up/download volume is almost up with all the re-ups. Refreshes next Saturday.

this is one of those interesting and annoying cases where i LOVE the musicianship, but the vocals almost kill the songs for me. i love me some ian curtis, but this takes the despair and monotone further. but man, are those some great backing tracks!

was the name an intentional nod? all signs point to yes!

I own the vinyl; the pitch/speed is a bit slower than how it should sound on these mp3s. Just thought I'd let you know.

Hi,

I'm not sure there are only 100 copies worldwide. Once I owned three of them, but i gave away two of them to my brother and a friend. Now i only have copy number 205.

About 5 to 10 years back there was this little record shop in Enschede, the Netherlands, and the owner (can't remember his name) apparently traced back the singer of the Eternal. It turned out this guy still had a whole box of copies on his attic and he sold the whole bunch to this record shop owner, who sold them in his shop and through the internet. I understood he also gave away free copies of them to his clients worldwide, as a sort of nice gesture, so it seems reasonable that 'new' copies will turn up once in a while.

If you are really in need of a copy i can ask my friend if he is willing to sell you his, as he's not really into this kind of music anymore.

Best,

BTW: great site, just discovered it!

I played the guitar on this album. 500 copies were made, each with a number. I've still got some...

The non-working email address above led me to discover that Benno was later in a covers band called Wolverene (sic)

Their band website is now defunkt.

(Curious Guy, please delete my above comment, many thanks for your good work)

Hi Jones, your previous comment has been deleted as you asked. Hope you still can get a copy of this great 12".
