UV POP - No Songs Tomorrow LP

Yesterday should have been my last post but thanks to Burl Veneer for leaving a comment with a link to this stunning album. I couldn't resist to post it today.
'No Songs Tomorrow' is UV Pop's first album released on Flowmotion in 1983. The album lasts about 1 hour. The first 5 songs are based around the guitar while 'Psalm' that closes the first side is a peaceful synth piece with the voice of A. Darlington. Side B is more synth-oriented.
I'm really happy to finally hear this record. Has been on my want-to-hear list for a long time.

Persona Non Grata - Our Shade Of Sin MLP

Here's another request.
Persona Non Grata was one of the many cold wave bands from France. I guess they were from Rouen as one track appears on the 'Rock à Rouen' comp. album.
This mini album was released on cult label L'Invitation Au Suicide. Includes a fold-out lyric sheet (my copy hasn't one).
Has some great tracks although you need to get used to the 'frenglish' accent in the vocals.

This is the last post for this year. Wish you all the best for 2008.

Note: tracks 1 & 2 and 5 & 6 ripped as one track.

Freshly - Air (Quoth She) LP

Danish band Freshly originally started as Freshly Riots. As Freshly Riots they released 2 records. The first is the 'Delightfully Fresh' 7" in 1982. Never heard this one. Second release is the 'Hope' album released in 1984. This album contains 11 tracks of punk inspired by early Stranglers.
For the second album 'Air (Quoth She), they shortened the name to Freshly and went for a more postpunk sound, with some hints to Killing Joke.
All records were released on their own Bondeskiver label. Another release on this label is the 'Complication' comp. LP with 10 punk & new wave bands from Denmark as War Of Destruction, Electric Deads and Sods. Also has 2 tracks of Freshly Riots.

Trisomie 21 - Final Work 12"

Another 12" of Trisomie 21. Title is a bit misleading. The band was probably planning to quit but already released a new album 'Distant Voices' in 1992.
The 'Final Work' 12" completes the 12" series. Expect to see some albums in the future.

Here's a collection of three 12"s of Trisomie 21, all released on Belgian label Play It Again Sam. This label is a major indie label these days.

UV Pop - Bendy Baby Man LP / Serious 12"

Thanks alot to Eleni from Greece for donating these rare records.
UV Pop is actually the alter ego of John K. White. Before UV Pop he was in The I Scream Brothers who have a few cuts on compilations.
The first UV Pop release is the 'No Songs Tomorrow' 7" on PAX, one of the rarest of his releases. Next is the 'No Songs Tomorrow' LP on UK experimental label Flowmotion (Konstruktivits, Metamorphosis,...). This album gave UV Pop a cult status. This album was also issued in Belgium on Konnexion. Also on Flowmotion appeared the 'Anyone To Me' 7"/12".
The 'Bendy Baby Man' is the second full length of UV Pop, who became a full band now. This one was released on his own Extra Records label. On this label came also the very last release 'Music To Yeah To' 12".
The 'Serious' 12" was released on Native Records and offers two different versions of the track that appears on the 'Bendy Baby Man' LP.
This is really good stuff but unfortunately very rare or way too expensive to get my hands on. UV Pop have a cult following, so maybe it's time for some reissues.
Get more info on UV Pop on this German fansite.
Anyone who could provide more UV Pop releases, please do not hesitate to do so.

Cindytalk reissues

Want to let everyone know that I removed the download link for the 'Camouflage Heart' album of Cindytalk.
There are 2 reissues available on Wheesht, a sublabel of Italian reissue label Abraxas. Now you can buy the 'Camouflage Heart' album on CD as well as on vinyl. Also 'In This World', originally released as two seperate albums, is reissued on a single CD and as double album. Both very recommended!
Visit Abraxas for more info. I think the albums will be available from other mailorders too in the near future.
A 10" with new material is planned for release in February next year.
For more on Cindytalk, visit Of Ghost And Buildings.

Three Clouds In The Sky - A Long Forgotten Day 12"

Another Dutch obscurity here, more precisely from Deventer. Five songs of postpunk wave with a small budget production. The only thing I know of Three Clouds In The Sky is that the band had ex-members of punk band Alerta. You can listen to some tracks of the Alerta album "In The Land Of A Thousand Pretty Dreams" on Eet U Smakelijk. There's also a split 12" with The EX released on Leeds label CNT.
"A Long Forgotten Day" was recorded in Joke's Koeienverhuurbedrijf and produced by Dolf.

Update! The Alerta/The Ex split 12" can be found on Old Punks Never Die.

The Cravats - Singles

Here a collection of three singles which have tracks not available on the double CD anthology.
The 'Gordon' 7" was the band's first release and done by themselves although later copies have a Small Wonder stamp. 'The End' was the second single, released on Small Wonder. 'Terminus' was the last single for The Cravats. This one released on Glass Records. The B side is more experimental like Dadacravats Laboratories.
The Cravats website can be found here.

Five Or Six - Cántame Esa Canción Que Dice, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah LP

Spanish label Edigsa seemed to release records for the Spanish audience, especially from the Cherry Red label as well as bands like Joy Division.
This album of Five Or Six is more than that. Instead of chosing already released recordings, Five Or Six made a compilation of mostly unreleased stuff. 'Another Reason' already appeared on the debut 7", 'Polar Exposure' on the mini-album of the same name, as well as 'Lost Cause'. 'Exhibit A' appeared on the 'A Thriving And Happy Land' but this version here is live.
All the other tracks never appeared on other recordings and there are some really good ones like 'Chalk Circle' with female vocals of Julia Gilbert.
Five Or Six are one of my favourite experimental wave bands from that period. I wonder how many more recordings they did that are never released.

Coïtus Int. - Sex For The Wealthy MLP

Another excellent postpunk release from The Netherlands. Coïtus Int. Started in the late 70's and their first release from 1980 is the 'Dead Excitement' 7" which is full on punk. you can get that one on No Longer Forgotten Music with some other Dutch punk records.
In 1981 their self-titled debut album showed a different sound. More influenced by Joy Division. Read about it on Life On The Dot where you can download the album as well.
'Sex For The Wealthy' follows in the same style and was released in 1985 according to Discogs but my record doesn't mention a year of release. I really don't know if this is their second album as there is another one 'How To Make Love And Babies'. I searched for more info and some site states 1983, another 1991 as year of release.
Anyway, enjoy Coïtus Int., a band forgotten by many which shouldn't be.

Party Day - Simplicity LP

Last release of this excellent Barnsley band Party Day. 'Simplicity' was released in 1986 on their own label. Original guitarplayer Martin Steele already left the band and Dean Peckett of The Second Coming took in his place.
There's an untitled track on the end of Side B which sounds very different from the rest of the album. Sounds more like a traditional or so...
The single record left not posted is the first 7" 'Row The Boat Ashore'. This one will follow very soon.

Note: tracks 4 & 5 ripped as one track.

Vonbrigði - Kakófónia MLP

For those who like interesting bands from Iceland like Þeyr or K.U.K.L., here's the mini album of Vonbrigði which means 'disappointment'. This is the band's second release. First one is the very rare 4 track debut 7".
Both records were released on Iceland's independent label Gramm. The 'Kakófónia' mini album was also issued in the UK on the Shout label. This is the version I have. On the UK release the titles are in English.
The band seems to be still around and released an album 'Eðli Annarra' a few years ago.

The Underlings - 12"s

I guess that regular visitor Roman Empire will be pleased to see this. Here's the rest of the discography of The Underlings.
As stated before, The Underlings are actually The S-Haters.
The 'That Little Girl' 12" resembles alot to the 'White Noise' 12" of The S-Haters.
The 'Centurion' 12" was the final release as the band already split up. The title track is over 7 minutes long but one of the best songs they ever did.

Murder Murder Suicide - Christians 12"

Murder Murder Suicide were an Australian anarchopunk band. Started around 1983 and released a 5-track tape. Two tracks were also offered for the rare 'Eat Your Head' double 12" compilation.
The 'Christians' 12" is the band's sole vinyl effort and probably last release. The songs have a strong British anarcho-sound with gloomy postpunk feel.
For those interested in the Australian punkscene, check the Regression website.

New York label Sacred Bones is planning a reissue of everything Belgian coldwave band The Cultural Decay ever recorded. Will have the 7", 12" and demo recordings. Don't know if this will be on CD or vinyl but you can check their MySpace site here.

V/A Music From The Dead Zone 2: USA LP

Interesting comp. album on UK label Dead Man's Curve. Vol. 1 has European acts while this one contains underground acts from the USA.
Corpses As Bedmates also released an album on Dead Man's Curve called 'Venus Handcuffs'. Has been re-released on CD in 2004 dropping the band name, replaced by Venus Handcuffs. Bob Drake and Susanne Lewis were also in Thinking Plague, 5UU'S, and appear on many other albums. Bob Drake lives in France now and still releases albums.
Little Fyodor used to be a member of Walls Of Genius. Released 3 albums and numerous cassettes. CDR copies are stil available on his website.
Digital Sex released a mini-album on their own Essence Records and a CD on French cult label Sordide Sentimental.
F/i have quite some cassettes and albums and mix industrial sounds with spacerock tunes. 2 members later in Drag City act Vocokesh.
Boy Dirt Car released some albums on RRR Records of which one is a split album with F/i. Key members are Darren Brown (who later founded Impact Test) and Eric Lunde who released many solo recordings of industrial stuff.
The Haters is Canadian Jupiter Larsen, and a well established name within the more noisy side of the industrial scene.
For Against released some quite beautiful postpunk albums on Independent Projects. I think most of their albums are re-released on CD and not hard to find. Everyone should have heard 'Echelons' once in their life.
Smersh also released an album on Dead Man's Curve. You can find both vinyl albums on The Thing On The Doorstep. There's actually 2 tracks of them although only one is mentioned.
Hunting Lodge offer a live version of one of their most wellknown tracks that appeared as a 12".
Psyclones are Brian Ladd and Julie Frith. On this track they got help of the mysterious Schlafengarten. Some albums of Psyclones can be found here and 2 tapes of Schlafengarten on Shards Of Beauty.
Gestaltung is an alias for Smersh.

Eton Crop - It's My Dog, Maestro LP

Here's my last contribution of this British sounding band from Holland.
'It's My Dog, Maestro' is the very first full length of Eton Crop and released between the 'Gay Boys On The Battlefield' 12" and the 'Yes Please Bob' MLP. Both can be found in the archives.
Released on the very small UK label Grunt Grunt A Go Go. The other release is the 'Good Morning Mister Presley' comp. album, also previously posted.
Haven't heard the later records like 'A Bundle Of Bucks' 12" and 'And The Underwater Music Goes On' but later they went completely dance.

V/A The Young And The Free 10"

Don't let the awful cover fool you. It's actually a gimmick scratch'n'sniff sleeve.
This 10" contains 4 rather unknown postpunk/synth bands, each with two tracks.
Vietnamese Rose play postpunk with a 60's psyche feel. They also have a 7" on the same label as this comp.
Experiments With Ice is probably the most wellknown as they released an album on Experimental Records, a side label of United Dairies. One synthpop and one experimental synth track. Mutant Sounds posted the album.
Couldn't find any info on Stranger Comforts. Not that exciting of which one track is a version of the Rolling Stones classic.
Active Restraint is way better. Did find out that both tracks were released on a 7" on Upright Records.

V/A The Young & The Free 10" (Luna Records-Moon LP1-1982)

The Underlings - Fatal Purpose LP

And who are The Underlings? No one else but The S-Haters. After a change of drummer, the band decided to change the name as well as they felt it wasn't appropriate for the music they made.
But the sound is not quite different as The S-Haters records on Midnight Music.
'Fatal Purpose' is the sole full length of The Underlings. Before this one, there's the 'That Little Girl' 12". The band split up for good after the album but a 12" called 'Centurion' was released as the epitaph of the band. I hope to post the 12"s as well in the near future.

And for those who want some more In Excelsis, John at Punks On Postcards posted the Peel Session, which he recorded on tape from the radio. Worth checking out.

Kill Your Pet Puppy

Thanks to Nuzz I found a very interesting site on UK punkzine Kill Your Pet Puppy. Not only you can read some articles and watch photos. There's also a page full of hard-to-find stuff for download of bands like The Mob, Blyth Power, Null & Void, Blood & Roses, The Straps, ... Already got the Ritual 'Songs For A Dead King' tape. Great! Also the 'Naked' tape of Sex Gang Children can be found there. They are also planning to post the complete 96 Tapes releases.

Trial - Moments Of Collapse LP

Excellent peace-postpunk album of this San Francisco band. This is Trial's second release after the 'Inborn System' 7" released on Freak Records (small label with 2 releases. The other one is the '1984' 7" of Crucifix). The songs on the 7" showed already the way they were heading. Found it on Strange Reaction(RIP), the first music blog I ever knew.
Opening track 'Lobotomized Visions' has an industrial feel due to the use of metal percussion.
Cyrnai is the most known member of Trial. Discogs states that she was also a member of Sleeping Dogs (7" on CRASS Records) and Treason (1 song on the 'Peace/War' comp.). She also released solo work, mainly tapes but also a 12" called 'Charred Blossoms' which you can find on Mutant Sounds. Some tapes of her can be found on Shards Of Beauty. Her work is way more experimental. Seems she was active until the late 90's but no further info as the Cyrnai website is down.
The album is not so hard to find probably 'cos Trial had a distribution deal with Rough Trade.
Get this one! You won't be disappointed.

Note: tracks 5&6 ripped as one track.

Kan Kan - The Unreleased Tracks (Update)

As some of you already noticed, the website of Patrick Dineen is down for the moment. Patrick wrote me that the 'Unreleased Tracks' CD of Kan Kan will be available on CD Baby within a week. This will be easier to get hold of a copy.
And please also check the 'Beauty' CD by Rialto, another project of Patrick.
I have also seen that Red Beat's 'The Missing Album' is available there too.
So for the people living in the US, it's way cheaper to get the albums at CD Baby as the dollar being weak and of the high shipping charges from Europe.
Spend some money, support the artists!

The Midnight Choir - Gideon Turtle And The Midnight Choir 12"

Second release of The Midnight Choir after the 'Kiss' 12". This one sounds quite different than the 1st 12". Less postpunk, more rock. So they went for another direction. Never heard the later releases on Probe Plus and Native Records.
The songs were recorded live in the studio without overdubs hence the sound.
Produced by Simon Hinkler of Artery and released on Artery's A Golden Dawn label.

Vocals - Dave Loukes
Guitar - Mark Jackson

Lives Of Angels - Elevator To Eden LP

A great contribution by Ximo of Spain. Always wanted to hear this album and I'm glad that Ximo wanted to digitize this one.
I don't know alot about Lives Of Angels. It's actually a two-person effort. This album was recorded at home on 4-track by Gerald and Catherine O'Connell. They also appear on the 'Color Supplement' comp. album on Color Disc (Modern Art label). The 'Elevator Of Eden' LP is sometimes referred to as a minimal synth cold wave classic but there's also some psyche influence as well.
There's a Lives Of Angels MySpace page.
The 'Color Supplement' LP can be found on Mutant Sounds as well as a tape of Modern Art (pre-Sun Dial).

Nervous Gender/Beelzebub Youth - Music From Hell LP

Excellent early Subterranean release. Beelzebub Youth were a mystery to me but is in fact Nervous Gender in disguise. Synthpunk should be the best description for Nervous Gender, although the Beelzebub Youth tracks sound darker and less punky. Before this release, they appeared on the 'Live At Target' comp. album. Nervous Gender started in 1978 and had different line-ups including Don Bolles of the Germs and Paul Roessler of The Screamers. Original member Gerardo Velasquez died in 1993 at the age of 33 and so ends the story of Nervous Gender.

Sturm Und Drang 12"s

A lot of bands were influenced by The Birthday Party back in the 80's. Think about Bone Orchard, Inca Babies,... Well there's also a band from The Netherlands who took the same influence to create their own sound.
Sturm Und Drang released 3 records as far as I know, these two 12"s and the 'Wild Style Cries' LP.
The first 12" is a decent effort but on the later records, singer René was replaced by a new one, Steef De Man. His vocals fit more to the sound of Sturm Und Drang.

Flowers For Agatha - 7" & 12"s

Someone asked for some Leeds Independent releases and here are the only ones I have. The best known band on that label is Rose Of Avalanche but here's another brilliant band, unfortunately not so wellknown.
The origins of Flowers For Agatha are already from 1980 when the band was called Bleeding Hearts. Later they changed name and started recording tracks in 1985 for the 'The Thickest Head' 7" and 'The Freedom Curse' 12". Last release is the 'Foolish Young Old And Stupid' 12". The band folded around 1986-1987.
There are demo recordings too so there's plenty of material that could make a reissue on CD as the vinyl is quite hard to find these days.
There's a Flowers For Agatha fanpage on MySpace here.

The Thickest Head 7" (Off Beat Records-OB 10-1985)
1. Presentation
2. The Thickest Head

Freedom Curse 12" (Leeds Independent-12 LIL 3-1985)

3. GoldThief

Young Foolish Old And Stupid 12" (Leeds Independent-12 LIL 8-1986)

Trisomie 21 - The First Songs Vol. I LP

Here's the Belgian reissue of Trisomie 21's second release; the 'Passions Divisées' LP. Originally released in 1984, also on Stechak Product.
Back in the day, Trisomie 21 was one of the very few cold wave bands that got some recognition outside of France. They played many concerts in Belgium and Holland.
There were a lot of cold wave bands from France but don't know many of them. A lot of those records are collector's items now.

The First Songs Vol. I LP (LD Records-LD 8813-1988)
1. See The Devil In Me
2. Relapse
3. Djakarta
4. Moving By You
5. Is Anybody Home? (Part 1)

Trisomie 21 - The First Songs Vol. II MLP

Excellent cold wave with an experimental touch from the North of France. The title is a bit misleading as this is the 1987 reissue of their debut 'Le Repos Des Enfants Heureux'. Originally released in 1983 on Stechak Product (Guerre Froide, Norma Loy).
Other interesting records( which I could post later) are 'The First Songs Vol. I' LP and the 'Wait & Dance' 12". Never cared too much for the records released after these.
First Songs I & II were also released as a CD but sadly out of print.
Visit the Trisomie 21 website here.
For those who shouldn't know, Trisomie 21 stands for the defective chromosome that causes Down Syndrome.

First Songs Vol. II MLP (LD Records-LD 8814-1988)

Rote Kapelle - 7"s

Here are the three 7"s that Edinburgh band Rote Kapelle released. The 'Big Smell Dinosaur' 7" is the first one and was self released. The other two released on In Tape.
Got a comment from ex-bassplayer Malk who was surprized to see people still interested in Rote Kapelle. And he makes no objections to making their music available for download.

1. King Mob
2. Evolution
3. Fergus! The Sheep!
4. A Gasfire

Soul Merchants - Gates Of Heaven LP

Very interesting postpunk band from Denver, Colorado. They mix the gloomy side of postpunk with 60's rock influences. The band only existed for 2 years but they made a hell of a lot of songs. Prior to this vinyl release, Soul Merchants released 2 cassette albums, 'God’s Hand Touched Him, And He Slept' and 'Before The Gates'. After the album they recorded the 'Let It Brood' cassette but this one was never officially released, probably because the band was falling apart.
I found out about Soul Merchants not so long ago, while reading the reviews in old Maximum Rock'n Roll editions,. You can find these on the Operation Phoenix Records site. Some reviews caught my attention and the 'Gates Of Heaven' LP was one of them. I went looking for a copy and came across their MySpace page. I was immediately impressed and asked Noinim and Fritz Die Spinne for more info. Fritz sent me MP3's of the cassette albums, which were originally digitized by Noinim as he knows one of the ex-members very well. And I managed to find a copy of the vinyl album on eBay recently.
One of the reasons that I post the album is that it's quite rare and hard-to-find. The other reason is to announce the release of the double CD set 'Black Boots And Sideburns' which contains almost all of the songs released on the 3 cassette albums. 5 songs didn't make it (of which 2 are drawn out psychedelic tunes). This release can now be obtained through Smooch Records. I really recommend you to do so. I already ordered mine and, being from Europe, asked for shipping charges but there are none. Talk about cheap!

Note: sorry for the purple-ish colour in the scan of the frontsleeve. Blame my scanner!

Gates Of Heaven LP (Iron Gate Records-IG 003-1986)
1. Phases Of The Moon
2. Within This Place
3. Marriage Hearse
4. Black Rain
5. When I Smile
6. Staircase
7. Country Lane
8. Frame House
9. Blue On Blue
10. Just One More Favour

Ghost Dance - Word To The Wise 12"

Ghost Dance is best known for having Gary Marx (ex-Sisters Of Mercy) and Annemarie (ex-Skeletal Family) in the band. Both left their previous bands and got in contact with eachother to form Ghost Dance. Other well known members of the Bradford/Leeds scene were contacted like Aky (ex-Southern Death Cult) to form this 'supergroup'. Well you can read the whole history on their official website.
I was planning to rip the 'Gathering Dust' LP, a compilation of the early 7"/12" tracks. But it is recently reissued and you can order it from the Ghost Dance website.
'Word To The Wise' is the last release on indie Karbon before they signed to major Chrysalis. Never heard their later releases. The 'Gathering Dust' album is great although I always skip the cover songs.

Word To The Wise 12" (Karbon-KAR 608T-1987)
1. When I Call
2. Fools Gold
3. Cruel Light
4. Holding On
