Ides Of March - In Winter's Land 7" / On The Face 12"
Here's another collection of one of those 'promising' wave bands from the UK. Don't know where they exactly came from but both records were released on Swindon's RS Records.
My copy of the 12" came with some promo stuff. Melody Maker describes them as The Cure meets The Cult. Sounds writes: '...a cracking rock band in the rugged tense mode of Killing joke and New Model Army'.
On the 'In Winter's Land' 7" you can hear the band looking for their own sound, while the 'On The Face' 12" is way better due to a better , fuller production.
Although the 7" was released first it carries the RSA 3 number, while the 12" carries the RSAT 2 cat. number.
Members are:
Eddie Knight - Guitar
Rick Knight - Drums
Paul Wilson - Vocals
Paul Witney - Bass
In Winter's Land 7" (RS Records-RSA 3-1986)
1. In Winter's Land
2. Civilian
On The Face 12" (RS Records-RSAT 2-1986)
1. On The Face
2. Seranade
3. Talalow (La Whore)

Blimey, never thought I'd hear of these again. Saw them once opening up for Ghost Dance and the Rose of Avalanche at the Town & Country Club in Kentish Town. 1988, maybe.
You still want "Somewhere Outside"? The Danish post-punk/wave comp.?
See, I have it and I'm able to tip it too. Just let me know.
Ole
I MEAN RIP IT DAMN
Already got a rip from a fellow Danish person. Thanks for the offer. But if you want to rip it and see it appear on here, just go ahead.
Thanks for this.
Wow! Just found this blog while looking for information on a band called The Fifteenth. I got a USB record player for Christmas, and got all my old vinyl out for the first time in years. The first thing I put on was a Tanz Records compilation, that included The Fifteenth's "She Isis".
It also includes a track by Chatshow, a great Goth band from Oxford. I have an EP by them as well which I could rip and upload if anyone's interested.
Strange, that with all those comparisons one group is not mentioned that Ides Of March seem to be a mere copy of for my taste: Echo & The Bunnymen.
Hi there. I just discover this place and so many good moments ("Five or six" for sure) back to my ear. Welll I have a request for you but a tricky one. I remenber the title of two songs of a record but not exactly the name of the band or where they come from. The songs i remenber is "Dot dot dot" and "Friends and comfort". I think the name of the band or the record is "Home comfort". This one was an european band of the early 80's, maybe from Holland or Belgium... I hope someone do know some about it, it was a very good record.
Thank you all friends, C.G. and sorry about my very broken english.
Maybe Mark Glynne & Bart Zwier from the Netherlands with the album Home Comfort from 1980. There are the tracks Dotted World and Friends And Celebrities on it.
mutantsounds has the album, just look for the band name.
Thanks a lot Oldskool, this is it.
Major thanks, Curious Guy- very little info on the web about this band- great share! I'm listening to it now and dig the sound! Hope all things are well for you-
PS- looking for Cortex's 2nd full length LP 'You Can't Kill The Boogeyman' from 1986- any chance you have it?
Winston - it was indeed at the Town & Country Club on November 6th 1988. Great times. Been looking to find a copy of these records for a while. Thanks as always Curious Guy & a belated Happy New Year.
Oldskool, thanks for helping out Coco Becerra. I know I dl'd that album off some blog.
Highlander, shared with pleasure as always.
Nice to hear from you English Paul. Wish you a happy 2009 as well.
Sheerinertia, I think I know someone who has that Cortex LP.
Humpty Moo, there's some Chatshow on blogs I guess but I don't know where. One is definitely on Cactus Mouth Informer.
I would be very interested in hearing the Dutch com. "Somewhere outside". I think it would be very interesting to hear. Someone of you should put it up:)
Hi Curious Guy,
The Cactus Mouth Informer blog does indeed have some Chatshow stuff - the EP I have, and one I didn't know which was uploaded exactly a month ago! Many thanks for the tip off.
I have since found another curiosity, an EP called Foreplay by Geschlekt Akt. It's quality 80s goth from the Criminal Damage label who were based in Reading, UK. I've uploaded a zip file to the following URL:
http://www.chriswareham.demon.co.uk/geschlecht_akt.zip
You can find the Foreplay release here by Geschlecht Akt:

I have that Geschlecht Akt 12" but thanks for the link. You can find it on Cactus Mouth Informer as well.
Chatshow did another two 12"s I never heard before. 'Shake It Down' and 'Kings Of Confusion'.
Concerning the Ides of Matrch I too have been looking for these items for a while, I have an unreleased album of the same group ripped, just prior to there RS departure, the afore mentioned were missing many thanks for filling the gap
German Paul
German Paul, that unreleased album sounds interesting. I have an LP (Tales Of Glory) of Ides Of March but it's another, German band.
In Winter's Land is absolutely beautiful, I can't stop listening to it. Thanks as always for another treasure Curious Guy
I too was at the t &c club, I missed the i of m sadly but saw them subsequently a number of times, great band. from a fellow ex SE9er. x
